The week in gossip

June 15, 2012, 11:55 pm

Madonna's middle aged boob, Matthew McConaughey's nuptials and Lindsay Lohan's appalling driving record all made the news this week.

No matter what she does drama seems to follow Lindsay Lohan around like a bad smell.

The actress, 25, was involved in a car accident this week and what started off as a minor incident evolved into a minor media circus with ever-changing stories on both sides.

Lohan's rented Porsche was written off on California's Pacific Coast Highway after she crashed into a truck.

The actress was briefly taken to hospital in Santa Monica after the accident, in which she was not injured, and went straight to work on the set of her straight-to-TV movie Liz & Dick - in which she stars with Kiwi actor Grant Bowler.

"Lindsay was involved in an automobile accident today on her way to the set. She was brought to Santa Monica UCLA hospital as a precaution.

"She is fine and was released less than two hours later and is already headed back to the set to resume work. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident."

Lohan originally blamed the truck driver for the accident, while he said eyewitnesses could back up his account that the actress rear-ended his vehicle. Later in the week Lohan told pals the crash was due to brake failure on her pricey rental car.

"Lindsay is sticking with the 'truck cut me off!!!' story, but with a twist, she claims she slammed on the brakes, but nothing," a pal of the actress told TMZ.com.

Several days ago the actress was forced to deny allegations she tried to make out her assistant was driving the car and that a member of her entourage attempted to bribe the truck driver to change his version of events. She has also told pals the truck driver has placed blame for the accident on her in an attempt to extort cash.

Alcohol has been established as not being a factor in the accident - but not Lohan's erratic behaviour.

On Friday paramedics were rushed to the actress' Marina del Rey hotel room after a call to emergency services reported her as unconscious.

Lindsay's very busy rep Steve Honig told press her 'gruelling' work schedule was responsible for her episode of 'exhaustion and dehydration' and added that the actress was back on set this morning.

Interestingly, exhaustion and dehydration were reasons often used for Lohan's medical dramas during her, er, more troubled period.

Madonna may be 53 years old but the star still knows how to create a stir.

The singer was on stage during a concert in Istanbul, Turkey this week when she exposed her right breast to a crowd of 55,000 people.

While the star has always been synonymous with pushing the boundaries, much of the public reaction to her flash has been on the scornful side.

Piers Morgan asked his Twitter followers if Boobgate was the 'most embarrassing, cringe-worthy, desperate moment in the history of music?'

Other online fans remarked -'Why is Madonna still showing off her tits? No, it's not sexy to see a woman who could be my grandma whipping her nipple around,' and 'Isn't Madonna a little too old to be flashing nip on stage?'

But the superstar had plenty of support from nonplussed fans including actress Christina Applegate, who took to Twitter to declare: "Reading twitter this am and there r all these tweets about Madonna and her nipple flash. And we are shocked because...?"

"What I'm saying is. Its not like Sarah Palin had a nip slip, its Madonna."

The singer's MDNA tour has 86 scheduled dates throughout Europe, Asia, and North and South America. The tour began in Tel Aviv, Israel last month and will not finish until late December in Argentina.

Madonna's 24-year-old dancer beau Brahim Zaibat and her four children Lourdes, 15, Rocco, 11, and David and Mercy, both six, are joining her on tour.
