Adams’ latest album – his first solo one - has a very sombre mood and feel to it. The lyrics, most of which are about love and loss, take you on a sad journey that you can only assume comes from the artist’s past (and personal experience).
‘Ashes & Fire’ does include a number of talented artists such as Norah Jones and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ organist Benmont Trench.
Jones features on tracks such as ‘Come Home’, ‘Save Me’ and ‘Kindness’, adding harmonious vocals and a little light to an otherwise heavy mood.
Adams himself is a multiple Grammy–nominated singer/songwriter who has had great success both as a solo artist and with his former group, the Cardinals that he fronted until 2009.
The album claims to be Adams’ most ‘cohesive and luscious album’ of his distinguished and critically acclaimed career. If so, I struggle to feel excited about buying his other music.
However, if poetic and sombre music is what you like, then I’d certainly encourage you to buy this album. And a bottle of wine.Follow Yahoo! New Zealand Entertainment on Twitter - @YahooNZGossip
