A few of my favourite things
As competition gets fierce on the dance floor our celebrities' costumes get funky, flimsy, and downright fugly.

We're at the halfway mark on Dancing With The Stars and now seems a good time to ponder on who will be the lucky celebs dancing across our screens in the inevitable next series. There aren't too many celebs left on the shelf that haven't done DWTS but there are a couple of candidates I can think of.

What about that girl who had her handbag borrowed by Tana Umaga to bop someone on the head? And that man that drove his tractor up the steps of parliament? I think he could do a fiery fart-tax inspired chacha. Who do you think should be on the next Dancing With The Stars?

Now that we're down to five dancers the format has changed a bit, everyone will do the samba individually and then take to the floor together for the Viennese waltz. Tina is leading in the Yahoo!Xtra poll as the celebrity that should go home next with 39%, lets see if she can make a comeback.

Tina and Aaron are the first dancers of the evening wriggling to ‘La Isla Bonita'. Their samba looks remarkably like so many of their other dances. Tina impresses with yet another strained expression from her facial repertoire. This one is ‘ooh I've got a splinter in my finger and I can't get it out'.

Tina does a very uncomfortable looking splits and they end the routine with a gymnastic back bend. Brendan doesn't like it at all and calls it "weak, and very hard'. Things are looking grim for Tina. The other judges are also less than impressed.

Temepara and Stefano take the floor next and are a raspberry clad sensation! Temepara is perhaps not quite as sure-footed as in previous episodes but they both look so happy that you don't even care.

Stefano spins Temepara on the floor in magnificent fashion to the delighted whoops of the crowd. Paul declares that Stefano danced with gay abandon but Temepara, not so much. Craig says he liked it a lot and that ‘the choreography was camper than the costumes but absolutely brilliant'. They get a great score of 34.

Cory and Rebecca strut out on the dance floor to the disco classic "Young Hearts Run Free". Their costumes and dance are also inspired by the era that taste forgot as demonstrated by Cory's delightful brown flares and bullseye shirt.

We know by now that the Latin dances are not exactly Cory's forte and his routine is a bit stiff. Rebecca is wearing an artificial ostrich and Cory does a lot of patting of her feathery bottom as she shakes her tail feather.

Alison says that she ‘enjoyed it, but for all the wrong reasons'. I don't even want to know where you're going with that one Alison. Paul says that he didn't believe it and Cory sort of agrees that this style of dancing is a bit of a challenge for him.

Brendan laughed all the way through, calling the performance ‘camper than Stefano and Craig on a hen's night'. The judges have now moved from critiquing to outright mocking of poor Cory! Candy tries to make things better by telling Cory that if he is camp then she wants to go camping. They get a rather weak score of 21.

Miriama and Jonny, crowd and poll favourites step up next for their samba. Miriama is wearing a fetching dress constructed entirely out of strips of Christmas tinsel. It is frighteningly brief but she wears it well.

They dance with confidence and ease and are rewarded with great comments from the judges, although Craig also describes it as ‘the filthiest samba I've ever seen'. Alison of course can always be relied upon to give faint praise and says that Miriama could have played with the audience more. They get two 10s in their score for a super total of 37.

Nerida is not to be outdone in the costume department and pinched Bjork's infamous swan dress and massacred it to meet her own needs. Dancing is a cutthroat profession. Monty runs so excitedly on to the dance floor that I can't help but laugh. He looks so happy!

These two are so delightedly cheesy and campy; they could be performers on a cruise ship. They finish with one of their dazzling spins, ending with Nerida proudly perched aloft Monty's shoulder like a prize boar. It's a great performance and the judges are loving it too. Craig says "the best thing was the shimmy and your pectoral muscles as you ran past".

We're done with the samba and it's now time for the mass Viennese waltz. Elizabeth Marvelly is the guest performer this week and she sings "My Favourite Things' from The Sound of Music as the dancers gracefully waltz round the dance floor.

The ladies are all stunning in periwinkle blue (or is it royal purple?) They all dance amazingly and it is quite a lovely spectacle. The judges give a few comments at the end but save the scoring for the finale.

As the votes are tabulated we are treated to a ‘cheeky chacha' from judge Brendan Cole and co-host Candy Lane. These two are so elastic-limbed it's quite astounding to watch. However the dance quickly turns from ‘wow' to ‘ewww' as they do a magical quick change half way through and the dancing takes a more suggestive turn. Think of the children!

Finally, the end is nigh for one couple and not surprisingly it's time for Tina and Aaron to extinguish their torches. Tina gives an Oscar-winning length speech, as Aaron chomps at the bit to get a word in.

They take to the floor once again to reprise their performance, but show pony Tina can't get enough of the spotlight and starts miming the song, gesturing for a mic. She is eventually passed one and then abandons the dance and her partner and starts singing!! But hey, that's showbusiness for you folks.

Tina Cross would rather lip synch a song than dance. Strange.

Temepara and Stefano are a real wow on the dance floor. Stefano is such an awesome dancer and choreographer and Temepara is a hard worker to take in both dancing and netball. I wish them the best of luck and hope they win.

My guess is the final two will be Miriama and Temepara. What's the bet it'll be one guy, one girl - it always is. Makes you wonder about the way the votes are counted doesn't it.....
