Hi there dancing queens! Well it was the penultimate episode of season 4 last night, and what a shocker it was! Do you think justice was served? Or was an injustice meted out to one of our fabulous celebs? Join me now for a run through of the action.
Temepara and Stefano are up first with the Paso Doble. Temepara was the leader in last weeks Yahoo!Xtra poll as to who would be the ultimate winner with 59% of the vote. Can she keep up the momentum this week? They enter the dance floor with Temepara catching a piggyback with Stefano, but in most elegant fashion of course.
They are as entertaining as always and finish with a fantastic finale with Stefano appearing to drag Temepara across the floor by the hair! The judges have a few minor quibbles with the performance but on the whole they are enthusiastic about their showing and give them a score of 34. The crowd goes wild!
Jason says he loved the hair-dragging bit. Didn't we all Jase. Stefano demonstrates the move on Jason, which gives Jase the opportunity to confirm that yes, his hair is all his own. Fear not readers, no Russian peasants or small furred animals were harmed in the manufacture of wigs and toupees for his famed pate.
Miriama and Jonny are next with the foxtrot, performed appropriately enough to ‘Johnny Be Good'. Miriama is wearing an insane pair of white tasseled pants that Elvis shrunk in the wash. They hurt the eyes when she shakes!
This pair dance non-stop, it's a fun routine and everyone loves it. The crowd goes wilder! Now a few people I've spoken to have found Miriama to be just a wee bit too cocky in the preceding weeks, but maybe due to their poor showing last episode she seems to have found some humility in the intervening week.
She scored a paltry 27% of the vote in our poll this week so her popularity has definitely dipped. Whether it's the attitude or their dancing last week it's hard to say. This week's routine sees them back on top. The judges are thrilled with their energy and they get rewarded with a score of 33.
Monty and Nerida have also opted for the Paso Doble this week. Monty emerges looking like a pirate hooker, clutching the lapels of his charming velveteen bolero jacket which sits atop a flamboyant corset top. He struts the dance floor wearing a serious expression, his nose proudly held aloft.
A few weeks ago I suggested that Monty and Nerida were taking inspiration from Torville and Dean and it appears I was right as they launch into a routine to the accompaniment of ‘Bolero', the music popularised by those most famous of ice skaters.
Nerida is stunning in a burnt orange gown adorned with tassels. What's with all the tassels this week? Were they on special in the haberdashery department? It's quite a dramatic and exciting routine, especially when Nerida rips off her skirt and hands it to Monty who brandishes it as a cape in fine fashion.
However, he soon finds it displeasing, burnt orange is not his colour! He quickly discards it with a flourish. Monty spins Nerida on the floor in the exciting finale and then pretends to stab her! It's rather good.
The judges are thrilled with Monty's improved performance and Brendan says he has the best caping action of the series. This doesn't seem like much of a compliment as I think the only other cape action we've seen is by Martin Devlin. Congrats Monty! You are better than one other person who really wasn't very good at all.
Alison, ever ready to inject a little sleaze into the proceedings with her giant smut-filled syringe says that she enjoyed the intro video in the Warriors changing room most of all.
They get a fantastic score of 35 with a 10 from Paul. The crowd goes wildest of all!! Candy anoints Monty the "most improved player' and goes on a long rant about how he likes to get tips from her in the Koru Lounge at the airport.
Temepara and Stefano take to the floor for their final dance of the evening and this time it's the waltz. Temepara is wearing a fetching dual purpose number with cobwebs attached at the waist and wrist which flap out like wings, or if you're a fly, like death-traps. They are charming and elegant (as we knew they would be).
They finish with Stefano twirling Temepara off the ground for what is either a tribute to the whirling dervishes of Turkey or an attempt at the world record for longest ballroom spin. Craig is in a good mood, he notes that there were a few timing issues but then is positively effusive in his praise of the pair.
Candy gets all huffy because apparently some people think that the waltz is ‘easy', but it's really not easy at all!! Settle down Cans! We know its hard work!
Jonny and Miriama are up for the foxtrot, dancing to the song ‘Broadway Baby'. Miriama emerges in a bra and a maxi-skirt; she seems to always get landed with the more risqué outfits. The dance is nice and they perform excellently as always, but it does seem a little uninspired.
Alison finds Miriama's top line to be good, but her footwork somewhat lacking. Craig says he ‘loved it' and that it was ‘an immaculate job'. Paul describes it as "strictly Hollywood" and is rewarded with deafening silence from the crowd who mistake his compliment for an insult. They get a great score 35 from the judges.
It's time for the final dance and it's the tango as performed by Monty and Nerida. Monty impressed with his first dance, but can he pull it off again? The pair dance with intensity and focus, but you can tell it's not really up to scratch.
Craig finds it "ploddy, stompy and pigeon toed" and reminds Monty that he needs to lead his partner to which Monty fires back "I am the only one left leading in this competition". Ooh settle!!
All the judges seem convinced that Monty and Nerida will be leaving us as they go out of their way to congratulate Nerida on her fine work this season, as if in preparation for their departure. They get a rather disappointing score of 29.
We take a break while the scores are tallied and some youngsters dance up a storm as Bella Kalolo sings that classic number "Last Dance". Wow these kids are so young and they are amazing! They could really show the celebs a thing or five.
And now the moment we've been waiting for arrives. Last week I was convinced that Monty would be leaving but there seems to have been a shift in his favour this week. It still seems unlikely that he will make it through to the final. Or does it? Unbelievably, Miriama and Jonny are called on as the pair to be going home this evening! What the hey?
Nerida looks the most shocked of all; she seemed fully prepared to be the one going home so it seems to come as a rather a surprise that she now finds herself in the final. The mighty Yahoo!Xtra poll has yet to be wrong, until now that is. Last week you predicted that Monty would be heading home.
One of our commenters mentioned a few weeks ago that there is usually a boy and a girl in the final. Do I detect a hint of rigging? Or has he just been voting a lot for himself? Questions to ponder whilst we await next week's grand finale with giddy glee.
