Paula Goodspeed had a history of mental illness and her death is thought to be from a self-inflicted drug overdose. Goodspeed had a 17-year fixation with Paula Abdul. Don't ask me why. I mean, ‘Straight Up' was a great song back in the day, but 17 years of unrequited love?

Goodspeed had even auditioned, unsuccessfully, for the fifth season of American Idol for the chance to get closer to her hero.

According to TMZ, the fan had overdosed outside Paula's house before - and her interest in the star had ‘frightened' Abdul to the extent that the LAPD had an active investigation ongoing into her stalker-ish ways.

The car she was found in had a picture of Abdul hanging from the rearview mirror, and a picture of the singer on Goodspeed's MySpace page had the caption 'My secret crush. Shhhhhhh.'

Paula, of course, did the par-for-the-course celebrity thing and announced in a statement that she was "deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired yesterday. My heart and prayers go out to her family."

Which is nice, of course, but probably not what she wanted to say. I mean, it's never good when someone takes their own life but I bet she's really glad deep down that her crazy-ass stalker is no longer a problem.

Poor Paula, she's a delicate wee flower. But she looks like she rattles easily, and doesn't really need to be prompted towards anything ingestible to er, sooth her nerves - if you know what I mean.

In October Anne Hathaway's ex-boyfriend, Italian shyster Raffaello Follieri, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for fraud. From what I can gather he's in some transitional facility before he can permanently be housed in the New York penal system, and it's sitting none too well with the former high flyer.

Apparently the conditions inside are "unspeakably unsanitary" (who would have thought?) and wittle Raffaello isn't feeling so good. What to do when your man manicure and well-groomed eyebrows are garnering you some less than wanted attention? Complain.

Follieri's lawyer, Flora Edwards, has requested he be moved to a different jail while awaiting transfer. Currently he's living in a dormitory situation with 120 other men. Hey, if he closed his eyes he could just pretend he was in a large, angry backpacker's hostel. Without the Europe bit, obviously.

"He says that he cannot eat because the food appears to be spoiled and that the toilet and shower facilities are unspeakably unsanitary," says a letter penned by Follieri's lawyer.

"There is excrement in the shower and rats are roaming freely in the area. He says the stench is intolerable."

Imagine! Jail food sucks and the bathroom isn't clean as a whistle? There's poo about and no-one seems inclined to get rid? I am shocked and appalled. Mind you, if you compare his current living arrangements with his previous - setting up home in a New York penthouse and sleeping with a movie star - his experiences probably average out at around the normal level.
