In a delightful case of the apple never falling far from the toothsome, perma-tanned tree, Matthew McConaughey's mother Kay has hit the headlines today with excerpts from her upcoming motivational book, I Amaze Myself.

I'd love to say it was Kay's motivational pearls of wisdom gaining her the press - amongst them always having a plan B, and making your own happiness. It's more for the fact that she's announced that Matthew's father, Jim McConaughey, passed from this world in the very midst of doing the er, nasty.

I guess it beats dying at work.

"On Monday mornings, he and I often said goodbye by making love," says Kay, who was married to Jim three times. "But one day, all of a sudden, it just happened."

"I knew that something was wrong, because I didn't hear anything from him, just nothing," Kay tells Us Weekly. "But it was the best way to go!"

When Jim was announced dead, Kay ensured he'd leave her and their home the way nature intended - naked.

"I was just so proud to show off my big old Jim McConaughey - and his gift," announces Kay, 77.

If that wasn't quite enough, Matthew's mama (who looks a lot like her famous son in a blonde, tanned, slightly crazy sort of way) tells the mag her youngest child was an accident.

"I was deciding, ‘Do I want to have another baby? Do I want to have an affair? Or go back to school? That's when Matthew was conceived. We had tried for 16 years and no baby. So Matthew was a big surprise!"

I'm pretty sure I was a surprise baby too. But a good one - like finding money in your old jeans, or finding a sweet parking space at the mall at Christmas time. Not a bad surprise, like too much wasabi in your sushi roll or standing in dog poo. Although you may want to check with my Mum for clarification.

Now Matthew's penchant for sharing far too much information seems to make more sense. Wonder if Kay (you can call her K Mac, as per her website) wants to spill the secret on Matthew's freakishly short arms?

Kay's embarking on a promo tour for her book soon. I hope to God she's visiting Parnell.

 

Make it work, rich people

There aren't many people I love as much as I love Project Runway's Tim Gunn. I want his sharp eye and droll observational skills with me 24/7! But Tim's taken his genius beyond Parsons School of Design and into celebrity fashion commentary, passing public comment on the fashionable female form.

First, he told Us Weekly that potential First Lady Michelle Obama has the fashionable edge of her Republican rival, Cindy McCain.

"She epitomizes class and American style," he says of Mrs Obama. "She looks approachable."

He wasn't so kind about Mrs McCain, telling the mag she "looks like she's duct-taped."

I think she looks like she should be wearing a silk robe, drinking a daiquiri and spending her days penciling in her eyebrows.

Tim, bless him, also had something to say about Katie Holmes' recent soft spot for those hideous pegged jeans she insists on saying belong to Tom Tom.

"I have to say, Katie Holmes has become so much more sophisticated in so many ways, but I think she's in a dip right now. I can't explain it."

I so hope the first thing he said upon seeing those nasty ass jeans was "this troubles me."

 

A British icon on boobs

Kate Moss has always marched to the beat of a different supermodel drum, which has resulted in the Londoner having a long and diverse career in a very fickle business. And it turns out that in an industry based on physical perfection, Kate's not a fan of the unnaturally enhanced bosom.

"I think they're awful," the 34-year-old told Interview magazine. So many of my friends have got them, and they've gone wrong. I'm not into them."

The model admits there are advantages to ageing, saying now she's in her mid-thirties "I'm a lot better in the sack," but doesn't have many kind words for potential sack-snugglers. "Absolute bastards!" she declares of the opposite sex. "Men are not to be trusted."

Give her a break. She did go out with Pete Doherty. Thought of the smell alone probably still brings tears to her eyes.
