Comedian Rosie O'Donnell to host new US radio show

NEW YORK, June 25 (Reuters) - U.S. comedian Rosie O'Donnell will return to the U.S. talk show format but this time with her own morning satellite radio show.

The comedian, actress and former co-host of the U.S. television talk show "The View" will host her own show on Sirius XM Radio, the US satellite radio provider said in a statement on Thursday. Sirius is also home to programs by shock jock Howard Stern and Oprah Winfrey.

The two-hour show, called "Rosie Radio" will feature O'Donnell tackling a variety of topics including pop culture and interviewing guests from celebrities to everyday Americans, according to Sirius.

"Two hours of talk show entertainment, without having to wear makeup. Perfection." O'Donnell said in the statement.

O'Donnell, 47, was a provocative moderator of "The View," which was hosted by veteran TV personality Barbara Walters. She is known for her liberal politics and brash humor, and she often clashed with her co-stars including conservative Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

O'Donnell joined "The View" in September 2006, boosting its audience size by 17 percent, but she left in 2007 amid reports she had run afoul of Walters. At the time, both denied there was any acrimony between them.

Since then, O'Donnell has become an active Web blogger, often answering questions with her fans at www.rosie.com.

A spokeswoman for Sirius said she could not discuss the terms of O'Donnell's contract, including how much she was being paid.

O'Donnell first gained international fame in the 1992 film "A League Of Their Own" that co-starred Madonna and Tom Hanks before hosting her own U.S. daytime talk show "The Rosie O'Donnell Show" from 1996. (Reporting by Christine Kearney, editing by Bob Tourtellotte)
