Lindsay and Sam's lover's tiff

By Splash Lindsay Lohan and girlfriend Samantha Ronson were caught up in yet another vicious fight as they rang in 2009, according to US reports.

The pair began fighting in a dark alley after storming out of a Miami nightclub on New Year's Eve.

And then they returned to their hotel where they began throwing punches at one another and screaming until resort security pulled them apart, it was claimed.

An onlooker told the New York Post newspaper: "It was a really gross alley.

"There was a bum [tramp] eating a sandwich watching the whole thing. Lindsay was really unstable and flipping out."

The spat began after they left nightspot, Mansion.

The onlooker said: "Lohan screeched at Ronson, 'When I storm off, you are supposed to follow me!'"

Then after the pair returned to their nearby hotel, crashing sounds and screaming was heard coming from their room until the fight spilled out into the hallways at about 11 am that morning, the newspaper reported.

One eyewitness revealed: "They were punching each other - it was bad.

"And they were doing this in front of all of us. It was scary.

"At one point, Lohan dropped to her knees and cried, 'Why are you doing this to me?'

"Sam just said, 'I don't know you.'"

Hotel security was called and photographs were taken of the room, which was reportedly "trashed".

A hotel worker said: "Mirrors were broken and it was a complete mess."

It follows reports that actress Lohan and London-born DJ Ronson, 31, tried to board an American Airlines flight back to Los Angeles several hours later - but Lohan was said to be such a mess before takeoff that flight attendants asked her if she'd like to disembark.

A spokeswoman for Mean Girls star Lohan, 22, said: "There was an argument - I don't know the details - but they left for Los Angeles together and it's fine."
