Nicole and Keith prepare for baby

By Splash Pregnant Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban are swotting up ahead of the birth of their first child.

The Aussie stars proved they are leaving nothing to chance as they bought good parenting guides at a shopping mall near their Nashville home.

Kidman, 40, and Urban, visited a Davis-Kidd store where they spent time browsing at books in the parenting section.

Golden Compass star Kidman could be seen reading a 'Week 30' chapter in the book 'Your Pregnancy Week by Week' by Glade B. Curtis M.D, and Judith Schuler M.S.

Kidman and Urban, who is also 40, confirmed in January that they were expecting their first child together.

It will be the third child for Kidman, who adopted two children, Isabella and Connor, during her marriage to Tom Cruise.

As she flicked through the book, Kidman lingered on the section entitled 'How Your Actions Affect Your Baby's Development.' The section includes tips on 'Bathing During Pregnancy' and 'Choosing Where to Give Birth.'

Kidman could also be seen studying a section on 'Your Nutrition', which included information on the benefits of drinking herbal teas.

Kidman, who was showing off her growing baby bump in a figure-hugging mauve top, light trousers, trainers, a green army-style cap, scarf and sunglasses, was not the only one reading up.

Her country music singer husband Urban could be seen studying pages of the book 'Pocket Dad: Everyday Wisdom, Practical Tips & Fatherly Advice', by Dina Fayer and Bob Fayer.

Inside the book contains tips on subjects as broad as how to whistle, equipment to pack on a weekend camping trip, how to unblock a toilet, how to take care of the garden and how to barbeque.

After spending 30-minutes in the store the smiling couple emerged hand-in-hand to return to their car.

Urban was carrying a brown paper shopping bag with their purchases inside, and a bottle of trendy Fiji Water.

"They looked so happy and so cute together. They were both pointing at the books and sharing a laugh about what they were doing," an eyewitness said.

"You can tell they are thrilled at being pregnant and loving every minute of it."

After getting back into their car, the couple drove to a nearby cinema where they bought nachos and took in a movie.
