Warners singles out titles for restoration
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Blade Runner," "Bonnie
and Clyde," "Cool Hand Luke" and the Dirty Harry films "Magnum
Force" and "Sudden Impact" are titles from the Warner Bros.
vault that have been chosen for 4K restorations.
4K resolution, which uses 4,000 lines of scanning per frame
of film, offers more picture information -- four times the
amount found in today's commonly used 2K resolution.
The studio is eyeing two high-definition DVD format
offerings for the restored films -- Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD --
as well as standard-definition DVD. The "Blade Runner" release
is planned for this year, which marks the 25th anniversary of
the film's release.
