4K resolution, which uses 4,000 lines of scanning per frame of film, offers more picture information -- four times the amount found in today's commonly used 2K resolution.
The studio is eyeing two high-definition DVD format offerings for the restored films -- Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD -- as well as standard-definition DVD. The "Blade Runner" release is planned for this year, which marks the 25th anniversary of the film's release.
